wow, if you ever wanted a shot of reality, please take some time to read this series by the washington post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/walter-reed/index.html) on stories of vets coming back from iraq with post traumatic stress disorder and other problems. it is pretty ridiculous that our own country fails to give these men and women the care they deserve. it is frustrating that people are failing to accept the realities of these diseases and blaming the injured vets themselves. why do we not have better facilities for these people?
though from some of classes i've taken this has always been the case. military service men and women have never gotten the care they needed in all the wars we've fought as a nation. last year for a class, we had the chance to meet some disabled veterans from the vietnam and afghanistan wars at umass. we also met someone who was vietnamese who lived in vietnam when the US invaded. it was really mind altering to get such a different perspective, especially one that you never really get to hear. some people don't realize what is going on. even i don't know much of what is going on. but read some of the stories to get a point of view...it will bring you back down from that cloud.
