Yesterday around 5:30pm I had the best realization during class. But today, I can’t remember it. How does that happen? I’m frustrated at my lack of memory.
So instead I leave you with this question, and hopefully you can answer it for me…
When the Euro-Americans first came to the “New World”, they brought along with them, their accent. Some of the first immigrants here were the English, the French, and the Spanish. Now if we have colonies of people from Europe, don’t you think that the accent would have stayed intact? Shouldn’t the New Englanders have some sort of European accent? Is the Arlington/Medford/Southie/Boston accent some sort of twisted evolutionary accent from those first days when the Euro-Americans first stepped on this land?
Maybe the combination of all sorts of immigrants kind of transcends any sort of accent. Maybe I’ll consider that my thesis…
